Say Goodbye to Feedburner and Say Hello to New Schmutzie.com FeedBlitz Feeds
Wednesday, September 19, 2012 Feedburner Is Done For
Feedburner, a popular Google tool for sharing weblog updates, is going down the tubes. On October 20th, Google is shutting down yet another useful, functional, and broad-reaching service.I'm not bitter about this at all.
FeedBlitz Saves the Day!
A lot of you who subscribe to my site's feed to keep up with what is going on over here will eventually stop receiving updates because of this discontinued service, which nobody likes, least of all me. In response, I have migrated all my feeds over to FeedBlitz, which is a paid service that comes with stability, great stats and newsletter tools, and excellent customer support. What This Means For You At Schmutzie.com
If you already receive an email when I update this site, you don't have to do anything. If you subscribe to this site through a feedreader, you will have to re-subscribe using one of the following new feed links (the orange buttons), or you can change to email updates (the red buttons) if you'd prefer to find me in your inbox:
Schmutzie.com All-In-One
(Weblog, Schmoetry, Phoneography, and Five Star Friday)
Schmutzie.com
Schmoetry
Schmutzie's Phoneography
Five Star Friday
Thank you for switching!
If you have your website's feed burned through Feedburner, consider yourself warned that it is not long for this world, and check out FeedBlitz. They even has a handy dandy Feedburner Migration Guide to help you through these trying times.----------------------------
UPDATE: Apparently, Feedburner isn't dying altogether. Google is deprecating the Feedburner API among several others, which means that your feed and its analytics are supposed to stay where they are, leaving only third party services affected.
I don't know about you, but this does not fuel my confidence in the ongoing life of Feedburner or in the availability of any customer service should anything go wrong. There are already too many stories of people whose feeds have dropped many if not all of their subscribers, and I'm just not comfortable leaving something this important waving out there in Google's wind.

Google really can be dipshits, at times. Whatever happened to "Don't Be Evil"? If they don't have a rock-solid plan for a well-loved, well-used, well-adopted web service, they might consider keeping their exceedingly cash-rich hands in their pockets, and resisting the temptation to buy everything that moves, rather than buying up said objects-in-motion and mothballing most of them. Grrr.
Oh for fuck's sake.
I do not know anything about anything with this technical stuff. Will everything in my Google reader just go away? Or is it only blogs who happen to feed to the reader using Feedburner that will go away? So if I notice someone not updating in a really long while I should maybe go see if I should resubscribe?
WHAT THE HELL, GOOGLE?!
Thank you for this, Schmutzie.
Kizz, only the feeds that people used Feedburner to create will disappear, and hopefully there won't be that many of those!
Aaack! This is so sad.
this is the sort of thing that makes my brain shut down and then I don't do anything about it and then one day everything will be gone and I'll panic and come running over here to search your blog to figure out what I'm supposed to do and then I'll ask someone smarter than me to do it because it'll shut my brain down. You've been warned.
Stupid Google. Argh.
As of this morning, there are no statistics in Feedburner, but it looks like the feeds are still coming through. Major cluster-eff, Google.
Thanks for switching over to FeedBlitz - if any of your readers need assistance, our support at feedblitz team would be glad to help them join you!
