Watch My First Television Appearance on CBC News While I Eat Many Potatoes
Friday, February 25, 2011
Remember when I had that interview with Costa Maragos for CBC News a couple of weeks ago?
Well, now it's going to air! It's going to be on CBC television in Saskatchewan in less than two hours — it is airing at 5:30 CST on CBC News Saskatchewan — but you, yes YOU, get to see my segment right now, because Costa Maragos is the rather fine sort of person who sends out the link to a video before a broadcast to a blogger who doesn't have the patience to wait.
Click here to watch Schmutzie talk to Costa Maragos about alcoholism and living well while making blogging look all dynamic by typing in 72-point Times New Roman.
I am now going to hide behind a pillow and eat many potatoes, because this is how this non-drinker is dealing with her first television appearance.
Enjoy!

STOP eating the potatoes now! That was awesome. No need to fret or worry about a thing. You were so poised, really funny and obviously genuine. You were absolutely charming. I loved it.
Also, the "all or nothing" comment. That's precisely how I explain myself.
Fantastic. Very well done.
You were amazing!!
Great stuff...you were completly engaging and articulate and especially as authentic as your writing. Wgoohooo!
You sound very together but spontaneous, not overly rehearsed. I enjoyed it - thanks for the link.
One note - we pronounce schmutzie with a longer "O" like in wood. I've always enjoyed the name of your blog because thats one of our favorite words in our house.
Now, lay off the potatoes and eat some almonds ;-)
Yay, well done! And to think it wasn't so very long ago you were Anonymous Schmutzie, sharing with us, but not letting us see you. Congratulations on moving forward and best wishes for what is to come.
Seeing your real name in print is still wild to me.
You did GREAT! And I was also eating a potato as I watched it. With butter and oregano and cheese. (You have GREAT taste!)
Woo!!
Great job!
Deron and I just watched the segment.
YOU ARE GREAT!!!
I am so proud to know you IRL :)
We should hang out and play some super fun board games some night when you and the Palinode are not too busy.
LOVE this! Way to to and I LOVE your real name!
You were wonderful. I'm so proud for you.
I KNEW you would post the link to watch this so I wasn't terribly disappointed when I arrived home with a headache last night, took a pill, turned on the TV to look for CBC Saskatchewan news and was reminded yet again that StarChoice cable does not carry CBC Saskatchewan anymore. Rzzzzl Frrszzzzl Grrrrr!! That pisses me off.
But back to you. You looked great ... and very strong. I like the way you stop and moment and think before speaking. Smart gal.
You did great. I'm so glad you posted it - and glad you did the interview.
Awesome job. Awesome. Congrats!
My god-you are so beautiful! I love the glasses, and you were delightfully eloquent. Well done! Yay, Schmutzie! Whoot!
You were great! You are beautiful and strong and brave and I have so much respect for you.
(And ever since I first learned your real name, I've been pronouncing it incorrectly in my head. I'm glad to have been corrected. It's a great name!)
Smart, together, witty, honest but most importantly the hair was fabulous!!

I've never thought that maybe it would be nice to live in Saskatchewan (except it would be fun to be able to say "Saskatchewan" on a regular basis) until I watched this clip. Articulate, funny, wise, honest - and really, clearly a kick-ass typist. Love those keyboard action shots. Bravo.
Very nice interview. You are as well spoken in motion as you are in print. Well done! And I love your laptop skin.
I got all fangirl during your interview. You were well spoken, hot and with that sexy laptop cover to boot - congrats. :)
You have a really nice speaking voice and overall TV appearance. I love your writing, but I had no idea that you translated so well to video (I never assumed you did not, I just hadn't considered it).
Your message is really important to. Thanks for bein' you, again.
Congrats! You were great! I love your writing and was only a tiny bit worried that you would have an annoying voice or something that would detract (how shallow am I?!) but you don't... so now you're better than me, I'm still shallow and you have a great overall presence :)
Good on ya for putting yourself out there and being non-anonymous and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone!
It's taken me forever to find a moment to sit down and watch this.
Very well done!!! I love being able to actually see and hear someone who's words I love to read. It makes people so much more real to me.
: )
Brava!!!!
But I have a technicality to pick with your mom (or maybe it's a Canadian thing?) I've read your blog entry where you talk about how you got that name but I always read it in my head as the correct, east coast Jewish pronunciation-- "Schmutz" does not rhyme with "putz," as your piece implies. To clarify, I rounded up a linky link that seems to confirm my hunch here http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/schmutz Even if it were the Germanic derivation, the pronunciation would be closer to my first link; listen here http://www.forvo.com/word/schmutz/ So what gives?
Either way, I loves ya!
bikerchick, Mennonite German does not have the same pronunciation as perfect high German, and there is no dictionary or pronunciation key that I know of for Mennonite German, so trust me that that is how it's pronounced in this case. I just spoke with my mother last night, and she confirmed the pronunciation.
