Fetish Of The Hour
Friday, September 25, 2009 I just found my brown plaid Chuck Taylor high tops hidden under a pile on my bedroom floor, and I have all but hot glued them to my feet for two days. This will be day three.
On occasion, I become unreasonably attached to a particular article of clothing and derive great comfort from it. The feeling comes and then goes like puppy love in elementary school, but while it's here, having the item near feels like embracing good home cooking. It reminds me of my attachment to my blanky when I was little, only with less thumb-sucking.
Does this happen for you? Is it items of clothing that you become attached to, or are there other things that charm you for periods of time?

It's bad when the item in question is a shirt, in the summer. After 3 days you get quite a funk emanating from the pit area.
I have favourite pajamas.
So much so that I have unworn yoga pants. Who needs yoga pants when you have pajamas in polar fleece?
Oh! At first I irrationally thought those were MY shoes. They look practically the same...and the love I feel towards them...OMG.
I do this with songs. I'll find a song I love and then I'll listen to it over and over for days or weeks until I completely burn out on it.
That's it, damnit! I'm getting a pair!
High tops!! What did you think I meant!
I have a pair of earrings that I wear, almost with zero regard to what else I am wearing
You wanna talk fetish? How about owning 37 pairs of Chucks, high top of course. yeah. That'd be me. Until pregnancy changed my feet and I can't squeeze into about half of them. What size are you? I'd love to send 'em to a good home. Seriously. :)
I also have a pair of favorite jeans that I hate to toss in the laundry b'c then that means I can't wear them for a day, or two, or until I get around to doing the laundry.
And I have this one hoodie that i just got, but OMFG the comfort. I've sneaked it to work, but got busted the other day. DAMN.
I'd say I have a mild attachment to a certain long lacy flaxen silk scarf that I made myself. I'd definitely feel a loss if it was left behind somewhere and couldn't be recovered. That and sometimes a particularly fine pieace of agate that comes across my path. Maybe it has something to do with novelty at first, but there's a definite click.
Val, I'm a men's size 5 in my current pair ;)
How could you avoid gluing the chucks to the feet, mine are so worn and holey, it almost shames me but I love them so. And I know i should buy new ones so I look like a presentable almost 34 year old woman, but I just can't. I fixate on a few special pieces that I love, a skirt and pair of jeans, then wear the hell out of them. That is what they are there for, right?
Yes...I have chuck taylors that held that same obsession in my life, but most recently I think the obsession in my life has been this striped t-shirt I got at Wal-Mart of all places...I wear it the second it's clean every week.
I have a brown, plain, crewneck sweater that fits me badly (I think it was originally made for a tall man, so I call it and it's miles-too-long arms my boyfriend sweater)
- and I don't wear brown! - and I could wear it all Fall and be UTTERLY HAPPY.
I have a pair of Delta Burke snakeskin pattern pants that I wear almost every day in the fall & winter.
I hate the days when I'm either going out, or I know someone is coming to the house, and I have to dress in something else.
My butt in snakeskin is definitely not something you want to see!
Think a 6 or 6.5 would be way too big? I think the one pair of 5's that I had have long since gone to another good home...
I have pieces of clothes from most of the seasons of my life. In my hope chest, why? I don't know. They just remind of when and where and who. And I did wear the same one pair of earrings for 3 years once. WTF? I was young. But Chuck Taylors? They are not for me...every once in a while I try a pair on, just to to make check, and sure enough, still don't like em.
I am currently obsessed with Sonic's Cherry Limeade. I cannot drink enough of it. I get obsessed with everything - songs, clothes, people, movies, music etc. I'm glad to read your post and comments and know I am not alone in my obsessive behaviors.
I've loved discovering your blog and the Five Star Friday posts you compile, and now I love you and your obsessions (Sans Benson & Hedges). Thanks for sharing your amazing writing!
dimplecheek, thank you!
Val, yours would be too big for me :( Have you thought about donating them somewhere?
