My Thumbs Were Made For Hitchhiking

I just found out that I have a physical abnormality, aside from my short arms, bendable/shapable nose, and eyebrows that would grow all the way down to my eyelids if they had their way. I apparently have hitchhiker's thumbs.

I was reading a post over at Pet Cobra's, and he mentioned it, so I googled it, and voilà! I'm abnormal.

I was actually living under the misconception that the average human being had thumbs that bent backward like mine, and, because of that, I thought all the people with non-bendy type thumbs were deficient in some way. Armed with this new information, I still do. I have greater manual dexterity than you do. My thumbs, they be stylin'.

My physical superiority proves itself daily. How does your physical superiority express itself?

Hitchhiker's Thumbs have always intrigued me. And having read your link, I'm now extra proud of my ability to make a hot dog tongue. But mostly, I'm jealous of my daughter's ability to wiggle her ears, the coolest physical abnormality ever!

Lucky! My thumbs are totally lack-lustre.

My pinky fingers, however, bend inward at the top joint and look all crooked and witchy. I also have two toes webbed together.

I can't believe I just told the internet two things I try to hide from people.

My thumbs do that too. I'm double jointed. At least we don't have extra long thumbs like the main character in Even Cowgirls Get The Blues.

What do other people's thumbs do? I can't even picture this.

Fuck, I have that, too, but only on my right thumb. Maybe the left one is just ashamed of who it is and is pretending to be normal.

My eldest son has a forked (bifid)uvula. It's quite astonishing.

My thumbs do that.

Totally jealous of your webbed toes, Amanda. Now THAT'S cool!

Wow. Not only do we both enjoy the aroma of gasoline but, I tried that with my thumb and it bends back so apparently, we're just two peas in a pod.

my short arms

I have unusually long arms. And legs. I'm just under 5'7, but I have to buy "talls" to have enough leg room.

My dad has those thumbs, too. Apparently, he'd been unaware he had "special" thumbs his whole life. (I'm pretty sure no one else in my family got Hitchhiker's thumbs. MIne are of the normal, boring variety.)

My thumbs can do that too, I can also wiggle my ears, and bend some of my toes individually, roll and "cluck" my tongue...i'm gonna stop here, theres more but I'm starting to sound like a circus freak!

I can wiggle my eyeballs and stick my shoulder blades out of my back like wings. Hmm, maybe I should keep that stuff to myself.

I can snap my big toe and second toe together, on either foot (like you would snap your fingers). I can also cross those two toes. I have freaky feet.
