Five Etsy Must-Haves
Wednesday, November 25, 2009 Even though I am utterly broke, I chose to spend a couple of hours trolling through Etsy, because there is nothing like window shopping when there's a recession on. Here's what I found in the way of accessories and outerwear, top down:
1. I love vintage eyewear, so these 1950s cat's eye spectacles caught my eye, even though I could never pull them off because they're too small for my sizable noggin.
2. Check out this honey dijon scarf. It's simple and sweet. Also, I have developed a thing for yellow over the last couple of years and have started to secretly believe that it goes with everything. It does, right? Right?
3. I am often not a fan of belted jackets, but this one is a belted cloak, so there is still some of the looseness I like along with some definition from the belt. I am a fan.
4. I own about four different variations on this theme, but I think I can make room for one more messenger bag. It's just so handsome, and it is more structured than most others of its class. You can just tell that it turns its nose up at its lesser, shabbier looking brethren.
5. If you don't like these lotus mary janes, there is something wrong with you. Seriously. Get thee to a therapist and work on your issues until you can see the absolute rightness of tiger’s eye coloured carved stone buttons.
Etsy, I love you. Call me.

That bag? Totally swoonable!
I have never gone to Etzy, except to point and laugh.
Oh those shoes. GREAT. I live in Australia and shudder at the postage .... but I think I must have them.
Thanks! (I think)
The eyeglasses annoy me for the simple reason that I doubt they're handmade. And I'm not sure about that bag...
But the cloak is gorgeous and the shoes are dead cute.
LOVE the cloak. LOVE.
@JChevais you're allowed to sell vintage stuff on Etsy too, so the glasses would be okay.
In the 90's I dropped about $300 of my waitressing money that I was supposed to be saving for art college on a pair of "Katherines" - maroon cat eye frames. My mom was livid, and it was several more years before I could afford to put lenses in them. But it was still kind of worth it.
that cloak is very nice! i like it.
@Rene - I didn't know that vintage was good for etsy too. Hmm. Thanks for letting me know. Though still not sure about the bag... ;-)
Etsy and I have a love affair going on. I am on it at least once a day trolling for delights.
My husband, however, sees the Etsy page on my computer and threatens to take away my laptop and my credit card.
He has no sense of whimsy I tell you.
Love the belted cape. But hey, you missed Grant Creek Yarns!
those glasses are to die for. to! die! for! and yellow goes with everything indeed.
~ swoon ~
Love the cloak - even though it's really a cape, cloaks have hoods ;)
I love, love, love Etsy! I browse there a few times a week. I don't think it's a problem...yet. Once the money ship rolls in (any day now) I'm going shopping!
Gorgeous shoes! I don't know how you managed to choose just one pair out of her selection. MMM...shoe budget gone!
Oh, how it made my day to hear that someone else, besides me, has a sizeable noggin. Thank you!
I adore those shoes. Every time I look at Etsy I'm astounded by people's creativity. It's fantastic.
JChevais: Why are you not sure about the bag? You mean you don't like it or that you don't think it's handmade? If it's the latter I can assure it is made in my personal basement sweatshop in Papillion, NE.... I'm a bit hurt now.
