50x365 #356: Margaret

Do you know what's strange? you said.

What? I asked.

When I look in the mirror, I'm sometimes surprised at the old woman in it.

But you're eighty years old. Why does that surprise you?

I usually see the face I had at eighteen, the face my husband always saw.

I am a participant in x365 and Blog 365.

My Grandma complains of the same thing. Except she thinks of herself as 22. The age she was when she found out her father had died three years earlier as a POW.

I think it has to do with her dementia as she used to think of herself as older. Now she seems fixated on that time in her life.

It scares me to see her age backwards like this. Reliving all of her worst memories.

My gran used to say the same thing...She just couldn't understand how she could LOOK so old and feel so young...
She was quite a scandalous woman in her time :)
