Pregnancy's destroying my stomach. It looks like Freddy Kruger got at it.

I doubt it, I said.

Then, you lifted your shirt. Holy crap, were you right.

It doesn't look as bad as you think, I lied.

Pregnancy still made you beautiful, though. No stretch marks could take that away.

This made me smile a huge mama smile. I remember thinking my stretchmarks looked like the baby was trying to claw her way out. Wouldn't have traded them for all the pancakes and lemons in the Western hemisphere, though, since they came with really pretty porcelain skin.

Pancakes & lemons. Heh. The Birdy bit into a lemon recently and after her face turned inside out I told her how she seemed to love them as a fetus and she gave me the teenage-snark-in-a-toddler's-body look.
