Do I Snore?

The strangest thing has come up. A little while ago, Angela from Fluid Pudding noticed that my website snores. I thought that she meant there was some kind of odd noise that her computer made, but I was shocked when she shot the following video to show me what happens:

My website SNORES.

It doesn't snore on my computer, but it quite clearly snores on hers. If you have ever wondered if you should just close up your weblog over worries of boring the world to death, worry not. Yours, at least, has probably not put itself into a deep, snory sleep.

It looks to me like Angela is using Firefox on a Mac to view this website. Is this a Mac thing? Does this website snore for you when you hover over the upper left corner of the page? Do you know why it might be doing this?

I don't want to get rid of the snoring, really. I actually kind of like this quirk. That is, I like it if it is not a symptom that highlights my claptrap template code.

So, tell me: do I snore? and do you know why?

That is freaking funny. You don't snore on my pc, but I feel compelled to go check it out on my husbands mac.

Is it April 1st again already? Surely this is some kind of a joke?

But since I'll fall for anything once: your website doesn't snore on my firefox. But then, I'm using it on Windows, sorry...

I still think you're pulling our leg (our leg or our legs?)

utterlyconfused, I am not having you on. This is real.

Angela has brought it up a couple of times, and I thought she was all hepped up on goofballs at first, but nope, she's sober, and my website snores. Honest.

Yep, it snores. I had a look at your source code and you need to go find this bit - http://sleepinchallenge.beds.com/track.php?pk=1201

It's part of the beds.com ad in your right hand column.

Huh, it snores for me too, but I'm a MacFirefoxer. It does not matter where I am on the page scrolling-wise, I get the snore when I put my mouse on the upper left.

I looked at your code kinda quick, but I cannot see where the sound file is located!. Oooooeeeeoooooo

Ah! looks like Sassy figured it out! LOL Someone's sleeping in the corners after all. Hee!

Thursday, July 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSnowpea

Oh, good. Now I can sleep easy.

Ba da bum.

Thursday, July 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSchmutzie

I can't get it to snore. I guess I'm not special :(

Thursday, July 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDigits

I just put my mouse in the top left corner and yes, snoring! I put my sound up super loud to check and then the snoring scared the shit out of me, natch!

Thursday, July 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMegan

The best part is now you know where to find it you can change it to make all sorts of noises now. :)

That is so weird. When I go on your blog it just curses at me in several differnt languages. I thought that was some javascript thing you had embedded. I use a Toshiba laptop with Firefox in case you need to call your hosting company.

I'm a little bummed that I can't hear the snoring. I'm on a mac and using firefox. I always miss out on the good stuff.

Thursday, July 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterChristine

How bizarre! I'm on a PC using Firefox, and your website is sleeping soundly with no sign of sleep apnea whatsoever. :)

Thursday, July 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterThe Casual Perfectionist

Ha! Is she implying that your blog is boring? Wouldn't it be so much cooler to have fireworks and wine corks popping and raucous laughter as your blog's sound effect?

Thursday, July 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAll Adither

That's the funniest thing I've ever heard of. Hope you can fix it, but then again... it's sort of cool.

Only snore for me when I roll over the beds.com ad in the right column. Safari 3, FF2 and 3 on Mac. Weird that it does it for the Divine Fluid Pudding in a different place.

I shamelessly clicked on the ad, by the way, though I usually loathe things that "randomly" make noise on websites.

But I like you, so there you go... :-]

Thursday, July 3, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterjon deal

okay, no snoring on my mac in firefox, but I also don't see a beds.com ad...hmmm....

Friday, July 4, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDeezee

Snoring here. Mac w/Firefox.

Saw the sleep challenge code - but I'm starting to like it.

Friday, July 4, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterblackbird

Yep, I had snoring, too. I just assumed it was an ad. I'm using Mac Safari / Firefox.

Friday, July 4, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterWorking From Home Today

Nope to just firefox.

Friday, July 4, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterakakarma

Mac/Firefox here...no snoring, though. If that happens, though...that's pretty smart advertising.

Friday, July 4, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNonRunner

Mac/Safari here and there's snoring on mine! I never knew what that sound was. I thought I was hearing something.

Friday, July 4, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPerksofbeingme

Haha, this is better than April fools :-D

@Neil: Does it really curse at you? :-S I can't believe I'm missing out!

Good luck with getting rid of the snoring, wish I could have heard it...

Friday, July 4, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterutterlyconfused

On a Mac with firefox, yes it does. But just once as I hover over the upper left.

Friday, July 4, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSUEB0B

Safari and Mac, and I don't hear any snoring.

Friday, July 4, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKathy

Yep, still snores for me (I left you a comment a few days ago about it). I'm on a Mac and use Safari. Maybe it's adblocked by some systems?

Friday, July 4, 2008 | Unregistered Commentersteph

Beats farting. SO tacky.

Friday, July 4, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I have two Macs, and your page snores on both of them. :)

That's really funny; if I were you, I wouldn't change it.

Saturday, July 5, 2008 | Unregistered Commentertodd

Yep, snoring. That's AWESOME. (I'm on a Mac using Firefox.)

Sunday, July 6, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermommypie

No snoring. But I do hear a distressed Glaswegian voice shouting, "But Annie, my kids HAVE to EAT!"

Oh, hang on. That was in my head.

Sunday, July 6, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterfatboyfat

No snoring on IE/PC, but man, what a great opportunity for subliminal advertising! I can hear it now: "You will get up now, go to the freezer, and eat a half gallon of Edy's chocolate ice cream. DO IT NOW!"

Car-ay-zee!
