The First Snow

first snow 4

The first snow of the season fell today.

first snow 5

Normally, the first snow is little more than a few flakes, but today it fell. And fell. And fell.

first snow 2

I went out to the balcony to smell the snow on the air, that fresh, crisp laundry scent that comes across the wind on quiet days when the traffic is low.

The breeze blew briskly enough that the snow remained, piling up on the curled, dry leaves that still held onto branches, and for the first time in many years, I did not cry with the first sign of winter.

It instead made the indoors with ramen noodles and hot coffee all the more satisfying.

Ooh, snow! And I love the new masthead.

Here in da Burgh, it was 80 degrees Fahrenheit. I think I'd rather snow (I'm a winter person) (and I live in a third floor walk-up, the whole heat rises thing.)

xo,

SL

1. Snow is a terrible thing. Your tracks show up and the brains leave clear traces and then the zombie-killers know exactly where you've been and where you're going.

2. It looks like you are boiling brains. Brains are to be served raw or grilled, never boiled.

Wow … these photos are WONDERFUL … especially as I sit in Southern California where the Santa Ana winds are blowing warm, dry air off the deserts when we NEED rain. I guess it’s all a matter of perspective. I’m glad you were able to pass the day indoors with some warm, soothing comforts.
Hugs and blessings,

Wow. It was 78 here in South CArolina. It's insane to think about places getting snow.

I'm in St. Louis, and it doesn't even feel like fall yet. I had to turn my AC back on today because my apartment actually felt stuffy.

Snow frightens me more than anything.

I especially love the first photograph. Love those tonalities and the hint of motion blur.

There's something cozy about being inside while the snow is coming down. Or invigorating about stomping about in the first big snow of the season (like my Mom always used to do, being from Chicago and all). I like both. But then, I am a southerner, and I can afford to be romantic about it. Happy cozy days to you!

How beautiful! I love snow. I hope we get a first one because that means more will have come. I'm sorry winter is usually something to cry about. It is my favorite of all the seasons.
