50x365 #14: Todd H.

I thought you were cute and shy, if a little on the small side, until you opened your mouth one day and told me my salad dressing looked like cum. What followed was dirty beyond my experience with real people. Later, I prayed fervently, because I liked your foul mouth.

I am a participant in x365.

My dearest, sweetest miz pickles, for whom my heart beats a rhythm unheard in this universe, please oh sweet please would you consider allowing your rss feed to show the entire post? I dearly love reading the 50x365's but hate having to click through to read them. I promise to jet over and comment now and again. honest. please? with sugar and a cherry on top? with chocolate and whipped cream?

Pagalina, you're not alone. This is the third time I have had this request. I am still just trying it out, so it may be temporary.

Is it difficult to click over, or does your aggregator make it an annoying process?

Does anyone else want to weigh-in on this?

I don't have an opinion on the matter as I don't mind the full click. This site is easy to click over, but others take forever to load and I do read those through readers as I am terminally impatient.

However, I have a question. If you view the post in a reader does it still counts as a "click"?

I want to support the sites that rely on actual clicks for their ad income (or whatever) but have never quite understood what counts and what doesn't on their behalf.

Kelliqua, the post in the reader does not count as a full click, and as far as I know, any ads or other features associated with the template can only be affected by a visit to the actual website.

There are some ads that can be inserted into the feed that don't show up on the main page, so that you'll get ad revenue even from those who read your entries from RSS. A pretty non-intrusive way to do that would be with Google's adsense, but I don't know how to insert it just into the feed. (Although, the Intarwebs are a large and varied place. Someone who reads this blog likely does.)

For my blog, I send the whole articles out, just because it's easier for the readers. but I also don't run any ads. If I want people to click through to something, I'll put something after a cut, because the text (or pictures or whatever) doesn't go through to the RSS feed.

I think it's mostly personal preference.

I should have researched a little more to include this in my last post, but http://pheedo.com/" REL="nofollow">Pheedo does ads in just the RSS feed.

I thought I had seen them before, so I looked through my google reader logs, and Dooce uses Pheedo to put ads in her RSS feed, or at least, she did at one point.

Thursday's Child, thanks for your input. Mobile screens are pretty small, though. Do ads clutter up the screen terribly for those on the go?

Hmm. I don't pull down RSS on my phone, so I don't really know about that one.

But, I would imagine that, just like with most other mobile stuff, it wouldn't clutter so much as make a page "longer" It would add a few lines they'd have to scroll, but again, I'm not exactly sure how that would pan out.

http://www.admob.com/s/home/" REL="nofollow"> Admob is a company that specializes in mobile adverts, but I don't know about pricing of integration in RSS feeds. It would seem, though, that the RSS and mobile markets would be similar, given that they're both smaller versions of the web pages themselves (more or less), so I bet they have something either going on in that market or are working on it.

Primarly, i am lazy. lazy lazy lazy. Seccondarily, I don't mind so much clicking through for long posts but the little'uns annoy. It's not you, it's me! and thirdish, not having any of the verbiage show up at all renders my google reader just a series of bookmarks. Perhaps you can set the feed to show 30-50 words? I don't know anything about ads. I could see not wanting to lose the revenue.

I'm no expert with technology stuff, so maybe there's something simple I could do to make it change, but I can't click through since you made the change to titles only. :( And I'm not good at remembering to visit sites (which is why I use bloglines), so I have been getting behind on my reading. I'd be really glad if you switched back.

Just my $.02.
