Self-Pimpage (or Five Star Friday's Call For Submissions)
Wednesday, April 30, 2008
I am cross-posting the Five Star Friday call for submissions for its fourth edition, because I figure that the site is still early enough in its infancy to warrant the extra pimpage. Plus, it is my site, and I love it to pieces and want everyone else to love it to pieces, but only figuratively, because it's much nicer intact than floating around at the bottom of the computer screen like a deflated game of Tetris.Do people still play Tetris? Or am I very, very old?
"Call For Submissions":
This is Wednesday? Really? That just seems nigh on impossible, but if that's what the my computer says, I'll roll with it.
Wednesday means that it is time for the call for submissions for the next edition of Five Star Friday. Not that submissions haven't already been rolling in, because they have, and there are some truly enjoyable posts being added to Friday's fourth edition for everyone to read in two days time, and by some, I mean TEN.
Five Star Friday wants more than ten. Five Star Friday wants FIFTY. (After fifty, my will dribbles out the ends of my numb fingers, never mind the bloodshot eyes, but seriously, I love doing this, because you are aces. That's right: YOU ARE ACES).
So, if you've read an awesome weblog entry this week, or ever, check out how to submit a weblog entry, and send in the url. It's good for your karma.

A Public Service Announcement
Thursday, April 24, 2008
I just wanted to post a short reminder that I have started this new website called Five Star Friday, and that I am deeply in love with it, and that THE THIRD EDITION OF FIVE STAR FRIDAY IS COMING OUT TOMORROW.I am giving you three things to do:
You might not know it yet, but you love it, too, because it is all about sharing good web content without any competitive edge. It is like shooting kittens and rainbows out your butt, and even some unicorns, only their horns don't hurt, because it is all just so awesome.
I speak only truth.
This has been a public service announcement from your ever-loving Schmutzie.

Five Star Friday, Unveiled
Friday, April 18, 2008
After my paying gig last night that started at 8:15 a.m., I came home with Five Star Friday on the brain. It needed its own home. Being a bit pointy, I had to let that sucker out, and out it came in one unending torrent from 5:30 p.m. until 12:20 a.m. Do you know what fifteen straight hours of work sitting in front of a computer screen does to a person?I look like hell. My eyes are puffy and red, my skin is pallid, and I keep sitting around with my mouth hanging open. Now, if only I were an overweight teenager sitting in my mother's basement, the picture would be complete.
So, please, I beg of you, head on over and take a look at the product of my labour, and remember while you do so that I did this for YOU.
Welcome to Five Star Friday!
Love,
Schmutzie.

Five Star Friday Is Getting A New Home And Is Hankering For Your Submissions
Thursday, April 17, 2008
Alright, folks. I have a mission, which means I am going to make gross assumptions about you and your level of commitment to this mission. My mission is this: Five Star Friday. And you? You want to participate, spread the word, and help make this celebration of good weblog writing a success.I got so excited about it that I bought the domain name, I am building the website, and, if all goes as planned, which it never does, because this is the internet after all, it should be up sometime this evening at www.FiveStarFriday.com.
My goal for Five Star Friday is for it to be a celebration of good content from weblogs across the internet. Whether it is funny, sad, thoughtful, or joyful, if you think a particular weblog post is a cut above the rest, I want to include it in Five Star Friday. All types of content are welcome, whether it be sports, poetry, photography, or catblogging. Even spinster aunts crave a little more fame.
There is a ton of good content out there that rarely gets out to breathe, because, let's face it, many of us could fit our fanbase into an elevator, and isn't it a shame to let all that genius slowly disappear down this vast hole of intertubes? I think it is.
How To Submit A Weblog Post To Five Star Friday
(The reason I insist on using Twitter for communication is that, otherwise, my e-mail inbox would rear up, smack its greasy lips, and swallow me whole. We can't have that.)
So, now I charge you all with the task of submitting excellent weblog content to me, pronto! You've got less than twenty-four hours. Go!
And remember to keep an eye out for www.FiveStarFriday.com. It's going to be spanky.

The First Ever Five Star Friday
Friday, April 11, 2008
It is officially the first Five Star Friday!By way of a short explanation:
either every Thursday or every other Thursday, I will put a call out via Twitter for the submission of individual weblog posts that rise above the dreck proliferating on the internet, and I will highlight them in a post the following day, hence the name Five Star Friday. I do not care if the posts are three years old or were posted this morning, and they can be written by someone else or by you, if you are into the self-pimpage. As long as they are excellent reads, send them my way on Twitter. (Read the bottom of this post for instructions on how to message me on Twitter). Submitting entries to Five Star Friday offers kudos to those you love, and it serves up good writing for the rest of us.
So, without further ado, here are your submissions for Five Star Friday. You people are a generous lot. Enjoy!
Thanks for all your submissions! Keep an eye out for Five Star Friday in another week or two.

Get Into Five Star Friday
Thursday, April 10, 2008
What is Five Star Friday?Five Star Friday is a new thing I am starting as of tomorrow. Approximately every other Friday, or maybe every Friday, or however it naturally turns out, I want to post a list of links to stellar weblog entries that you have found out there.
I am starting it for two reasons: first, I like to browse through the internet and see what is out there in the world of weblogs, but I do not get a lot of time to do that these days, and, second, I thought it would be nice to share and share alike while spreading some of that link love around.
Here is how you can get involved:
- Read weblogs, and when a particular entry in a weblog strikes you as being above average, make note of it.
- Send me a message on Twitter, and only Twitter, with the url for that INDIVIDUAL ENTRY. That allcaps means that I do not want a url for a whole weblog. Just single posts, please. If you do not have a Twitter account, sign up. It is awesome. You will not regret it.
- Your submission will appear in the next Five Star Friday, and the author of the post you submitted, be it you (shameless!) or someone else (how sweet!), will be slightly more famous for a whole day.
What say you? You say yes!
So, the first ever Five Star Friday is tomorrow. Go dig up that good webloggy content and send it to Five Star Friday Twitter-wise. We all need some good reading and a little extra fame at the end of the week.
In order to send me a submission, sign in to Twitter, type @FiveStarFriday in the message box with no space between the @ and FiveStarFriday, paste in the individual post url that you want to submit, and hit the "update" button.
---------------------
PS. The reason I only want to take submissions via Twitter is because my e-mail inbox is a mess, and I don't want to lose any of the greatness that you guys have to offer. If you have any problems figuring out how to message me on Twitter, send me an e-mail, and I'll help you figure it out.
