I don't usually lurk if it's a well-written blog, or if there are just a whole lotta comments *because who then cares if there's one more or not, even if it's one by me...*

Hence I really shouldn't leave one here either, but I just couldn't help myself:)

I have absolutely no idea why there are many - everything is obviously rather relative when it comes to the number of daily visitors... - regular visitors that never ever leave a comment. Why do they come back for more if they don't like it then...? I do like the notion that it must be the wit that's completely intimidating, still alluring enough to get seconds, and thirds and... of:)

I'm alas too late for participating in the delurking thing - but I did like the idea!

It just dawned on me that you're not lamenting the lack of readers, but the lack of commenters. I said I lacked web savvy. Of course you know what kind of traffic you're getting. So, you can disregard my previous comment about being tired of the navel-gazing. Obviously, we enjoy that just fine. (And, I hope you realize that I didn't mean that disrespectfully.) I followed the delurking button to get here. This is a great idea. I don't get nearly the comments on my blog as I have regular readers. I'm not sure if I'm boring them to death or what the deal is.

I did consider it might be my armpits but then ruled that out because I'm sure my cat would complain if it was that.

Seriously, blog commenting is going down because of the verification process needed for each and every comment. Right now, at the bottom of this comment is the word verification box. There are 8 letters I must type in. And they are so close together, I don't know if one is a y or a w with an r mixed in.
That turns a lot of people off.
I would think that a service as big and vast as blogger would create a system that allows people to sign up once to a said blog and then comment away. If they abuse posting ad's and porn, then the blog owner can delete and ban that person.
Everyone wins.

Generally speaking, I have embodied the "long time lurker, first time commenter" sort. I believe my nasty, nasty habit began back in my neo-luddite-I-hate-the-IRC days.
Overwhelmingly though, in the walking-talking-(sur)-real-world, I push my nose & opinion into just about every situation I encounter. Seriously, my conversation with strangers counter is on the upper end of the bell curve. AND, frankly, despite the invaluable nuggets I pick up most days in such interactions, it's exhausting. So...poking around & reading a snippet-here, a whole post-there withOUT leaving comments has provided me with the luxury of following my whim, fancy or circus-train-of-thought without having to stop and leave my bloody two cents.

Also: this is the first time I've ever read your blog.

AND: sheesh if you don't have the greatest name there Schmutzie!
